About Our Camp

July 11-July 22 (Monday-Friday) from 7:30am-5:30pm at Edgewater Elementary School, Performance at Yuba College Theater

Join us for the premiere of a new program: a musical theatre day-camp! This camp, open to students in the community ages 8-15, teaches acting, singing, and dancing through the production of a musical (in this case, The Lion King JR). Students learn lines, choreography, and music for the show from passionate musical theatre practitioners in the Sacramento Valley, and the camp culminates with a community performance in a state-of-the-art theatre facility in our community!

This camp is a musical theatre intensive, meaning that it's very focused on vocal, dance, and acting training. We produce a full musical in 2 weeks, and thus the camp is a fast-paced environment. We will expect a lot from our students, both at camp and at home. Campers will need to be dedicated and committed to their role in the proaction, and their role as part of the ensemble.

That being said, this doesn't mean that we're only accepting experienced performers. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and assemble organization, and we truly mean that. We are excited to work with students who have never been onstage before! Everyone who registers for the camp will be involved in the show.

This also doesn't mean we won't have LOTS of fun along the way! In addition to working on the production with a music, dance, and theatre teacher, students will spend time in visual arts classes with our Visual Arts Teacher, helping to create their sets and props for the show, and becoming well-rounded artists along the way. We will be playing LOTS of theatre games, and will even have camp activities woven throughout the day that align with our Lion King theme. When we say "experience," we truly mean it: this camp is an immersive Lion King experience for our students. Hard work will ALWAYS be balanced with fun, and while this camp is more intensive than our other two, we are still so excited to work as an ensemble to build a show!

The camp site will be at Edgewater Elementary in Marysville, and we will move over to the Yuba College Theater for our final camp days (and the final performance). Campers are with us from 8:00am-5:00pm (with a half hour grace period for drop off from 7:30-8:00, and a half-hour grace period for pick-up from 5:00-5:30). Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and as we mentioned, this camp is FREE to all participants!

So whether you have a deep love for musical theatre, or are just excited to perform some Lion King songs with us, we can't wait to have you in our program this summer! Musical theatre is BACK at Rise Up!
